The aro census

The Aro Census is an online community survey whose purpose is to gather information on the makeup of the aromantic community. The initiative was started by AUREA in 2020 and is intended to be a bi-yearly project.

If you are a researcher interested in using raw data from the Aro Census, please email us at contact@aromanticism.org with “DATA REQUEST” in the subject line.

Aros create pride

We were thrilled to make Aromantics Create Pride an annual event. It started as a celebration of AUREA’s first birthday, but it went so wonderfully that we couldn’t help but bring it back.

A total of fourteen people participated in this event and interacted with each other’s works. The works submitted were deep with thought and bursting from an overflow of originality. Check out the works that were submitted below, and keep an eye out for ACP next year!

Aromantic book project

This project is well under way. Jessica Kingsley Publishers has commissioned a book about aromanticism and reached out us to facilitate getting more information about aromanticism out there. Several AUREA team members and a team of about 4-6 volunteers are working on this project. Jessica Kingsley Publishers has approved our proposal and offered us a contract! Our volunteers will be busy for the next 12-18 months writing up the book with a deadline of February 2025 for the final manuscript.

The book will be nonfiction and focus on personal narratives, explanations, aromantic experiences, and information. There are five chapters that will be covered in the book:

  1. Background on Aromanticism

  2. Aromanticism and Other Identities

  3. Aromanticism and Mental Health

  4. Moving Forward as a Community

Over the duration of this project - likely 1-2 years - there will be opportunities for further community contribution, such as through submission forms with prompts on particular topics. Keep an eye out for more info!
